Making Waves: i102-104 Celebrates Huge Jump In Listenership

i102-104, the West and Northwest’s regional radio station is continuing to make waves and is now a major player in the radio market according to the latest listenership figures from the JNLR, released today (Thursday 11 February 2010) compiled by Independent market research company, Ipsos/MRBI.

The station, which has made its' name thanks to its' talented on-air personalities and major station promotions such as the i102-104 Thief, Indecent Proposal and The Naked Bus, is still-the number one regional 15-34 radio station in Ireland - including Dublin reaching 161,000 listeners each and every week- up from 156,000 in November 2009.

These latest figures, show that i102-104, which broadcasts to Counties Roscommon, Galway, Donegal, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo and Sligo, reaches 9.9% of the available adult listening audience in the West and Northwest.

With an average of 18,000 people tuning in every 15 minutes - an increase of a further 12.5 % in the last 3 months, this is evidence that i102-104, which launched in February 2008, is still the most listened to 15-34 year old regional radio station in the entire country.

Reacting to the figures, General Manager Rena Maycock expressed her delight: "These results are fantastic news for i102-104. We have continued to buck the trend of other 15-34 regional stations which tend to plateau around 12,000 listeners every 15 minutes (i102-104 has 18,000) but we are still going from strength to strength, taking share from our competitors Todayfm and 2fm. We could not have predicted this type of growth and we want to thank our clients for their continued support and for continuing to advertise with us. We also want to send a huge thank you to our listeners for lending us their ears and their continued and unwavering support."

Programme Director Dave Alsybury said the success of the station was down to the loyal listeners as well as the station's dedicated staff; "After just two years on air, i102-104 has become a major player in the radio market. Everything we broadcast is based around our loyal listeners. We have exciting plans for the year ahead which we hope will mean even further growth for the station and of course ensure that listeners will find it more and more difficult to switch us off!"

i102-104 which is the sister station of i105-107 broadcasting to eight counties in the North East and Midlands, has scooped numerous awards since it launched including eight PPI awards (Oscars for Radio), 3 Radio Advertising Awards and was recently recognised for innovation and entrepreneurship by the Galway Chamber of Commerce. The station employs 32 staff at its' Galway studios and is one of four super regional stations licensed by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.

Its' sister station i105-107 is now a major player in the North East/Midlands recording a 33% increase in the number of listeners tuning into the station each day, reaching over 75,000 listeners every week.
