Mary McGill presents and produces iTalk. In September 2009, she was named as one of the top three best new presenters on Irish radio. With less than a year at the helm, Mary saw iTalk take the silver award for Specialist Speech Program at the PPIs, seeing off stiff competition from some of the biggest names in the business. Before joining i102104 in 2007, Mary completed a BA in Media Studies (which included a lot of time farting around on student radio). Then Mary decided to try and be sensible, so off she went to do a MA in English Literature and Publishing but after a stint in the ‘real world’ it was obvious where Mary truly belonged: in Media Land. In i102104, Mary takes care of iTalk, voices many an ad, makes appearances in satirical news segment Epic New Daily, acts in radio dramas like the PPI award winning ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ and is part of the documentary team. She has also been a finalist in the Vogue magazine competition for young writers. Mary could talk to the wall but she’d much rather talk to you. Whether it’s giving advice about the more delicate aspects of life or the best way to dance on tables without breaking your neck, Mary is gal with the plan.
Darragh hails from the Shelly place know as Sligo and before Mary found him out back by the bins of i102104, I spent a bit of time educating myself and travelling around the world.
The folks at NUI Galway have been very kind to me by giving me a B.A in English and History as well as an M.A in Journalism. During my time there I even managed to be shortlisted for two student media awards for my radio documentary on gambling in Ireland. Funnily enough it was called “Gambling in Ireland”. How about that for originality!
The nickname of Prunes, well I would like to say it’s a very interesting story, like maybe it has something to do with a shrivelled part of my anatomy! But sadly that’s just not the case.
The best things happen in the middle of the night, like iTalk with Mary McGill, i102-104’s award-winning, earth-conquering nightly talk show.
If random banter and smiling a lot is what you’re into, then this is the show to brighten up your night.
Here’s a sample – in no particular order - of the type of hot, weird topics iTalk sweats buckets to bring you: Embarrassing Oscar speeches? Check. Pigeon Awareness Day? Sure why not! Cloning your pets and the crap white lies you’re parents told you growing up? Yup. A delightful book from the 1950’s entitled ‘How to Supervise a Woman?’ It’s on the list. YouTube has become such a part of life that even the Pope is on there? Stick that down too. A girl possessed by evil spirits (or was she trying to get the day off school…)?
That’s just a lickle taste of the type of chat and craic you can expect from Mary and the iTalk crew, Sunday to Thursday, 10pm to 1am on i102-104.
iTalk with Mary McGill is about getting people talking: talking about the topical subjects of the day, celebrity shockers, the latest internet crazes, real life and everything in-between but always with an engaging and creative twist.
iTalk is a new breed in talk radio – you haven’t heard anything like it yet.
On iTalk with Mary McGill, Sunday to Thursday, 10m to 1am you’ll laugh, you’ll think and you’ll have a damn good time. So check it out.
